In addition to size, the two drills’ mechanisms also vary. The hand drill, for instance, is often operated by the human hand. This means that the mechanism used to operate the drill is manual. The speed of this machine is determined by the individual’s hand motions. As opposed to this, its counterpart is automated. As aforementioned, the motors attached to the long column are used to turn the spindle. The spindle supports the drill chunk which has all the cutting tools attached to it. It is due to its cheap price, that this drill has become popular amongst individual looking to improve their homes. The bench drill on the other hand, is more expensive. While the price of the bench drill may vary, its price exceeds that of the hand drill by far.
The performance of these two drills can be determined by multiple factors. First, the accuracy of these two drills tends to vary. When it comes to construction, it becomes important for an individual to maintain precision when drilling holes. In the case of the hand drill, accuracy is greatly reduced. The precision of the holes being drilled is determined by an individual’s aim. Drilling holes at different angles can easily result in un-even holes. The bench drill allows the worker to clamp the material that requires drilling. This ensures that the drill’s angle remain unchanged, creating more precise and even holes. Multiple holes with the same spacing, width and depth can be attained using this particular type of drill.
Secondly, the power of these drills also differs. Owing to the motor mechanism used in the bench drills, they tend to be a lot powerful than the hand drills. As opposed to the hand drill, the bench drill uses motors which drive the cutting pieces attached to the drill. It is possible for an individual to drill large bits of material using this drill. Further, the drills’ attached position allows it to draw power through leverage. This makes it easy for an individual to attach large bits for drilling even larger holes. Contrary to this, the hand drill requires an individual to use a significant amount of energy to drill through large pieces of material. The process is laborious and often futile.
Finally, the speed of the hand drill and that of the bench drill also tends to differ. When using a hand drill, an individual is forced to determine the angle and depth of the hole he or she is drilling manually. Due to this, the process of drilling is greatly slowed down.
